Interlude Restorative Suites

A collaboration of Allina Health and Presbyterian Homes & Services

Presbyterian Homes & Services and Allina Health Dedicate Interlude™ Restorative Suites

Local community and business leaders were joined by senior leaders and staff of Presbyterian Homes & Services (PHS) and Allina Health in the dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, July 16, 2015. The ceremony marked the official opening of Interlude™ Restorative Suites. The new transitional care center, located on the Abbott Northwestern - WestHealth Campus at 2775 Campus Drive in Plymouth, Minnesota, is managed by PHS and co-owned with Allina Health.

Interlude Restorative Suites is a new, holistic kind of transitional care that offers guests a truly upscale, soothing environment with superior clinically integrated care, in-patient rehabilitation, and guest-focused hospitality for the body and mind alike.

“Interlude and its new model of transitional care add another dimension to Abbott Northwestern - WestHealth,” said Plymouth Mayor Kelli Slavic. “The expertise shared among Allina Health and Presbyterian Homes & Services will ensure the availability of high quality health care close to home and work in Plymouth,” she said. Slavic added that Interlude’s accessible location at the interchange of I-494 and Highway 55 helps build Plymouth’s reputation as a full-service community.

Dr. Robert Wieland, Executive Vice President of Allina Health praised Interlude as one of the best additions to the Abbott Northwestern - WestHealth campus. “It was highly visionary to put Interlude in this location, attached to what I believe is the health care center of the future,” he said.

The idea of Interlude Restorative Suites began over three years ago, according to Sharon Klefsaas, Vice President of Operations for PHS.  A common vision emerged to design clinically advanced, yet soothing environment making the recovery stay seem less like a requirement and more like a retreat. “The vision was and is to improve outcomes for post-acute care so that guests can return home better prepared and with the support that they need,” said Klefsaas.

Interlude features “Care Pathways” – integrated recovery programs created by a team led by Allina physicians. These programs apply the best of care practices to expedite recovery from such treatments as total joint replacements, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pneumonia, heart failure, acute heart attack and other conditions.  “We aimed for fewer readmissions back to the hospital and we’re already seeing these results,” Klefsaas said.

Jason Gaines, Vice President of Abbott Northwestern – WestHealth, shared conversations he had earlier that same day with physicians and hospital administrators who are enthusiastic about Interlude. “Interlude’s care model, coupled with early outcomes, has created a buzz. Health care providers are excited that they can plan for patients to have surgery, an overnight stay and rehabilitation all at WestHealth,” he said.
